Best of British featuring Helicon Watches

Top British Watch Brands - Helicon Watches Among the Best

It is with immense pride that we share the exciting news of our inclusion in the December Edition of The Australian Financial Review’s Life and Luxury Magazine. This feature titled 'Best of British’ was written by respected watch journalist and author Simon de Burton and is an independent recognition of the dedication and attention to detail that our small family business, Helicon Watches, brings to the world of British horology.

In this resurgence of interest in British watchmaking, we stand alongside esteemed brands like Christopher Ward, Farer, Studio Underd0g, and Schofield. As a small, family-run business located just outside London, crafting a limited run of 50 numbered pieces for each watch per year, the inclusion in such a prestigious curated selection is both humbling and rewarding.

The legacy of British watchmaking is truly one of innovation and revolution. We find inspiration in the groundbreaking contributions of visionaries such as John Harrison and his revolutionary marine chronometer which helped The Royal Navy navigate the world’s oceans, right through to the renowned George Daniels, whose co-axial escapement left an indelible mark on contemporary horological history. Today every automatic self-winding mechanical watch owes a debt of gratitude to Britain’s John Harwood for the invention of the automatic watch and far more recently, to Roger Smith, pupil of the aforementioned George Daniels whose Isle of Man workshops produce some of the world’s most sought-after timepieces, one of which was recently sold at auction for $4.9 million !!!!

A special acknowledgement must go to the aforementioned Roger Smith and Mike France of Christopher Ward, who have spearheaded the foundation of The British Watch and Clockmakers Association whose mission is to help grow the resurgence in British watchmaking developing both skills, training and knowledge within the UK watchmaking industry.

Helicon Watches are proud to be a member of this esteemed body and we are honoured to participate in their inaugural exhibition of British Watchmakers Day on March 9, 2024, at The Royal Horticultural Halls, Lindley Hall and Lawrence Hall
80 Vincent Square London SW1P 2PB, an event that promises to showcase the brilliance of British watchmaking.

Our latest creation, the Claret, has recently been unveiled, and the response has been nothing short of exhilarating. These watches have already found homes in Australia, the USA, Finland, Europe, and Japan. It is your unwavering support that allows us to pursue our passion, and we are truly grateful for every collector who appreciates the artistry and dedication that goes into each timepiece.

As we continue this horological journey, we look forward to sharing more milestones, innovations, and, most importantly, the joy of crafting timepieces that resonate with discerning collectors around the globe. Thank you for being an integral part of our story. With heartfelt appreciation, we extend a resounding thank you for the outpouring of support and attention we have received from enthusiasts worldwide.
